Welcome to Samdalri (2023)

Other name: 웰컴투 삼달리 / 歡迎來到三達里 / Welkeomtu Samdalri / Добро пожаловать в Самдалри

Synopsis: After losing his mother—who worked as a haenyeo (female diver who harvests sea life)—at a young age due to a mistaken weather report, Jo Yong Pil makes up his mind to become a weather forecaster and protect the elders of his hometown. However, his passion and refusal to let misinformation slide earns him a reputation at work as a stubborn troublemaker who isn’t afraid to argue with his boss.
Jo Sam Dal, who grew up with Jo Yong Pil. Unlike Jo Yong Pil, content to remain in his hometown of Samdalri, Jo Sam Dal makes it her mission to get out of their small town and move to Seoul. After years of toiling away as an assistant in the fashion photography industry, Jo Sam Dal—who changes her name to Jo Eun Hye in Seoul—finally succeeds and makes it to the top. However, when everything she’s worked so hard to build comes crashing down in the blink of an eye, she returns to Samdalri, where people still know her as Sam Dal and not Eun Hye.
Although Jo Yong Pil and Jo Sam Dal used to be joined at the hip when they were younger, the once inseparable friends are no longer in contact with one another due to an incident that drove them apart. When Jo Sam Dal returns to Samdalri, however, they find that the longtime affection they once had for one another comes rushing back.

  1. I am not a fan of dramas with so much childhood reminiscing scenes but this one appropriately had to do it since, as the other have commented, this is about healing old wounds, looking back and learning something anew. I’m on episode 12 and, so far so good, I didn’t get the feeling of wanting to escape a waste of time for this one’s awesome, entertaining, worth the time but it’s not a “shiny gem” in my eyes. Last time I fell in love was the previous drama I binged: The Day (of the kidnapping). Anyway, I hope you’ll find a good time and would feel good watching this. 🙂

  2. I loved them, it’s basically a healing process
nothing big or over the top
I loved them so much and wouldn’t have minded seeing more of them❤️

  3. 8.5/10

Good series. This is not a punishing-bad-guys story. It’s about healing old wounds, accepting people suck and people can be evil then move on with your life.

    The whole cast was phenomenal
SHS was great, as usual, she’s really a great acrtress.
    I find JCW’s character bland.

  4. Need suggestion fellow k-drama addicts: Which currently airing drama should I watch.
    1. Welcome to Samdalri
    2. My Demon
    3. The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract
I don’t have any specific genre, I just look for good story, well executed with good acting.

    Thanks in advance!!

  5. Please agent of JCW, stop casting him in these laid back, him more in love with the FL than she is of him and him putting up with emotional abuse and cast him please in an action script. I feel like K2 was a lie at this point or he was injured during his mandatory military duty cause it’s one melodrama after another following K2. This drama reminds me of his similar roles in Lovestruck, The Sound of Magic, Backstreet and If You Wish Upon Me, the baggy clothes, the pathetic eyes, and the dog. Even in The Worst Evil he was berated by his wife’s family for not being good enough, pathetic and loved his wife before becoming a monster to catch a gangster. And of course, he lost everyone in his life in that one so what was the point of his deep undercover role when no one had his back? So please I’m begging you a spy thriller, think Tom Cruise in MI, secret agent, bad azz ML who gets the girl and saves the world. I’ll be waiting

  6. Wait is this their first time in a drama together? I’ve not seen any.. excited to see their chemistry 😍

  7. This one is like a copy of hometown cha cha cha. Sometimes I wonder why writers cannot come up with something original/better.

  8. Anyone remember the song they sang at the beginning? I just saw another drama recently they used this song too.. Darn I don’t remember what drama it was… Anyone has good memory here? Thanks.

  9. Ji changwook … no.. I tried to see positives of his acting etc as no doubt he acts really well but still can not like him. he gives villainous vibe. I do not know the name but there is this all time kdrama villain (at present he is the evil ghost in drama “moon in the day”)Ji changwook resembles him too much. I can not pass across that villain vibe from him.

  10. Honestly I wish JCW did more action dramas than this endless slew of rom-com melodramas in which he likes the FL more than they like him. Cue Lovestruck in the City

  11. Everyone saying it’s giving Hometown Cha Cha vibes. I think it’s more Forecasting Love and Weather meets Our Blues (Jeju island, haenyeo). Honestly, I was expecting JCW in that truck to be selling fish!!!

  12. its starting tom…sat already so many good shows r going on, & few ending soon…its perfect time to start this one

  13. Shin Hyesun and Ji changwook are our leads?? Count me in!!!! 😍😍
And the network is JTBC, their dramas are always so good! 💜
