  1. The drama depicts the suffering of the relatives of people who have taken their own lives, and it does so in a creative way and shows what goes on in their lives after losing their loved ones.
    10/10

  2. Words cannot describe how good this drama is, I can’t wait for the sequel… congratulations to everyone who participated in this production and to the writer of the webtoon that everything was inspired by

  3. Just finished episode 3.

I’m hanging in there, because the acting is so good and the story is interesting enough to wonder how things will go.

That said, for a country with an extraordinarily high suicide rate, a drama which centers around shaming a suicide victim is really gross. (I mean, its a gross concept regardless, but seems in particularly poor taste, in this context.) Do they think people will be less likely to commit suicide if they shame them like this? Do they think that victims haven’t already considered all the ways it will impact those around them? (I’ve known people who committed suicide and, believe me, they are tormented by this, until the pain of existence is just so overwhelming that it overrides everything else.) It shows an almost willful ignorance about the psychological factors which lead to suicide. A completely vapid approach to mental illness. A callousness to victims. Maybe this is going somewhere else, in the end?

Also, its sad to see Korean stories getting more and more Westernized. This feels like an Christian-influenced depiction of God and Death, with its monotheism and its victim-blaming and suicide as a sin. And a Westernized notion that whoever runs hell would enjoy being a punisher. Religion is a political tool and the Catholic church has been a soft colonizer for Western interests for centuries now. Its painful to see yet another culture being diluted by it.

There are some odd moments in the depiction of Death. Death says, “do you think you would last two minutes?” But, the point of hell is that its supposed to be eternal. Of course he would, because its his soul, not his body, and its an eternal torment that you will make sure he endures. It didn’t make sense.

Anyway, I miss the stories with reapers being a class of being, so there are multiple reapers in existence. I miss the more Eastern notion of a suicide victim becoming a ghost because of unresolved resentment. The fun of watching KDramas as someone not from Korea is getting a glimpse of another culture’s storytelling. If they’re just going to tell more and more stories the same way we do, it ceases to have a unique draw.

  4. I was stunned! Today I finished watching the 8 chapters of this drama.
It is a suspense and horror plot that explores all human miseries. I missed the good Korean plots that are very weak lately. Good job wtiters , cast and director!
